Glen Men Get Active with their Salad Kits
Glens Men Get Active with their Salad Kits
NACN were out and about with the Glens Men to provide them with Salad Kits. A FREE salad kit was provided to each of the Men that are involved in this project. It was lovely to see such enthusiasm from each of them to get growing and their gratitude of the gesture. One of the Men said “I can see you are thinking about our health, but thank you for just thinking about us”
The Kits were provided by the Northern Healthy Lifestyles Partnership (NHLP) as a result the COVID Community Support Hub set up by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council and working in partnership with the local community and voluntary sector and a range of agencies. This is one example of so many excellent and committed community responses on the ground and an illustration of support made quickly available from agencies providing connections and resources often across traditional boundaries.
The NHLP said “we are encouraging healthy lifestyles, these kits will help the Men grow their own salad in the comfort of their own homes using pots and grow-bags in place of a garden. They’re also fantastic activities to do while staying in and provides opportunities to gain new skills and confidence in home growing whilst providing the added benefit of adding home grown products to their meals”
The Glens Men project was initiated as part of the Glen Healthy Places Programme in 2019, funded by the Public Health Agency. The project continues to be supported by NACN and is funded by the Dept. of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs.
